A Short Review About This New Film called Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na by ARR

Why am I writing a review especially for this one you ask??? cause its a flick
by ARR, Duh!

Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi: Peppy, Catchy, Very Rahman. Rashid Ali a new Rahman Favourite
I think its the number of tracks he's sung recently, And why not good voice and
ok reach. Smooth Pop-Rock kind of a sound and that Special sound
which tells you its Rahman.

Pappu Cant Dance: A Million singers in this one. A Electro-Party thing.
Catching up quickly and will surely be Night club play list item soon. But one
down point is those Carnatic taranas don't fit in the track. overall ok.

Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai: Sounds 101% result of Rahman listening to some
American Slow-pop. Think Rihana. OK OK Slow tune not that good though. Get
boring after a few listens

Nazrein Milaana Nazrein Churaana: Slow-Rock Pop. Catchy chorus song. Does
anybody remember and Kollywood song by hearing this one.

Tu Bole Main Boloon: Rahman Singing Jazz. am I in heaven? Trinity College
of London showing its effect on Rahman. A cool Tune but catches on Slowly. Not a
tune for the average Joe.

Kahin To Hogi Ho: Sound little Similar to Coming Back to Life - Pink Floyd. Good But under ARR standards. A little more R&B would Have helped.

Over all the album is good but not as good as ARR's Previous endeavors in the world on contemporary film music.

Opera + Orkut = Disaster

Opera and orkut are too much of a wierd combination. The frequent crashs, virtually no supportor applications in orkut, slow response towards submit buttons. Now my question is simple one that dont the guys at opera use orkut? Or are they just devloping opera for myspace.com.

Hope to see a better version from the guys at opera (are u listening?).

Aamir 2008 : Shockingly good music by Amit trivedi

I was watcing the Idiot-o-vision the other day when I caught the first glimpse of aamir. It had a very cool Background tune to it, I thought it was ripped from some Moby track or just a commercially available track like the ones used in many movies teasers these days. But it is actually composed by Amit trivedi (the composer who did the album for aamir).

The album shock me when i heard it for the first time. Amore rehmanic sound. All songs are well balanced and harmonized to the mood of the flick.

Try and get ur hands on this album if available. BTW amit trivedi's the same guy who worked with Abhijeet Sawant on Junoon.

No, this was not a review its just that liked the album so i suggest should have a listen.

Vitamins are organic food substances found only in living things, i.e. plants and animals. They are essential for our bodies to function properly, for growth, energy and for our general well-being. With very few exceptions the human body cannot manufacture or synthesize vitamins. must be supplied in our diet or in man-made dietary supplements. Some people believe that vitamins can replace food, but that is incorrect. In fact, vitamins cannot be assimilated without also ingesting food. That is why it is best to take them with a meal. Synthetic vitamin supplements can be of varying quality, so it is a good idea to get your supplements from a reliable source.

The Nokia 5500 sport is designed to suit a user with an active lifestyle & comes with unique sporting features. The handset has a stainless steel casing which is grey in colour & is shock, dust & water resistant. The durable handset weighs 103 grams & measures 107 x 45 x 18 mm which is compact for the user to carry with them at all times. The phone has a TFT type screen which displays 262k colours & has a 208 x 208 pixel screen resolution. The Nokia 5500 Sport comes with swap keys which allow the user to easily switch between features such as music, phone & sports modes. The phone comes with 64 Mbytes of internal memory & included in the phones kit comes a 64 Mbytes MicroSD™ memory card to expand the phones memory further. The user can expand the phones memory up to 1 Gbyte by using the swappable MicroSD™ memory cards which are available for the phone. This sport phone comes with a sports diary which allows the user to keep a record of exercise programmes & fitness planning. The sports tests on the phone include a coopers test & biking test. The user can use the speed & distance counter, calories burned counter, stopwatch & steps calculator to assist them with their fitness plan. The Nokia 5500 Sport comes with a tapping command feature which allows the user to receive voice feedback tracking information rather than checking the display for information.

The phone comes with a flight mode which allows the user to operate certain features on the Nokia 5500 Sports whilst aboard an aircraft & in other restricted area. The user can take part in a conference call which allows the user to talk to other contacts on one call, all at the same time & can include up to five contacts per call. The user can use the Nokia push to talk feature which allows the user to talk to a group of contacts by using the push to talk key. The user simply presses & holds down the key to talk to others & on releasing the key the user will be able to hear the other contacts replies. The user can select the handsfree speaker if they are wanting to talk on a call but have the conversation over the phones loud speakers rather than holding the handset & talking through the mouth piece. The handsfree speaker phone allows the user to have a call without using their hands to hold the handset & the call is carried out by using the phones built in speakers & integrated microphone. The user can keep in contact with others by using the messaging services provides on the Nokia 5500 sport which include text messaging (SMS), multimedia messaging (MMS), email & audio messaging. The user can create, send & receive text or multimedia messages on their phone but the multimedia message allows the user to add photos or video with sound to their text input. The multimedia message can only be sent & receive by other multimedia messaging compatible mobile phone users. The user can enjoy using the email service which allows the user to send & receive attachments in all popular file formats. The phone comes with Nokia Xpress audio messaging which allows the user to send audio messages to compatible mobile phone users. The text to speech feature allows the user to listen to incoming messages which are read out by the Nokia 5500 Sport. The camera comes with user friendly features which include a self timer feature & advanced modes which can take the photo in either still, burst or video mode. Sony Ericsson w550i : My new love

Many phones have gone beyond just making calls and these "Smartphones" are normally top end models with top end prices. However the latest Sony Ericsson phone to reach us for review, the W550i is more a phone for the average user. We tested the W550i over a week to see if its performance was more than average.

The Sony Ericsson W550i measures 97 x 47 x 23mm and tips the scales at a celebrity fat club weight of 120 grams, its fair to say its a little porky or chubby but not as obese as the S700i. The quad band W550 supports worldwide networks and also boasts edge data connectivity allowing use of GPRS enabled networks to pick up email, surf the web and to download audio tracks for its Walkman features.

The design of the W550i is a mixture of the bigger w800i and also the S700i, it is a pivoting phone with the keyboard appearing from under the screen with a swivel motion. This reveals the numeric keypad, while the main navigational buttons live under the screen on the upper surface. The screen looks good given its 176 x 220 pixel resolution and 262k colours, its the same screen used in both the K750i and W800i and works well in this model. Navigation is painless and those used to Sony's now perfected user interface will not be disappointed by the few tweaks, like the ability to see if a folder contains new messages when at the top level.

The W550i does sport a camera, this one a 1.3 mega pixel one which although it has auto focus, its not a patch on the excellent one on the K750. Apart from the drop in resolution it also struggles in low light and we don't mean near darkness, an overcast day will defeat it.

That said Sony Ericsson don't pitch the W550i as a camera phone, this is part of the mobile Walkman range and this the smaller brother of the W800i offers value for money compared to its bigger sibling. The same Walkman software sits on the W550 and it makes accessing your media a synch cataloguing artist, albums and tracks then serving them up through an excellent interface. All of your MP3 tracks are stored on the inbuilt 256mb memory which is room for around 100 tracks in MP3 or Apples ACC or Microsoft's WMA (even with DRM), however we found why the W550i is more cost effective. Sony have decided not to provide an external data slot, so no MMC, memory stick or SD card which means the maximum music you can carry is the 256mb internal memory and in one stroke they have crippled the W550i and made it about as useful as the Moto E1 iTunes phone.

This is a real shame as the USB fill up method and supplied CD ripping software (disc to phone) work remarkably well and we just love the hardware buttons to access your tunes quickly and without the need to wade through software menus. The audio quality of the W550i is also pretty good, perhaps not up to the quality of the Sony Walkmans like the NWA3000 or for that matter the iPod Nano, but not far behind. The combination of the W550i's hardware and the supplied earphones make for a nice clear sound with crisp if not voluptuous bass, but more than acceptable for a phone and in our opinion better than the iTunes phone from Motorola. There is an FM radio should you exhaust your 100 tracks but that feels like poor compensation for the lack of a memory stick!

Once again Sony Ericsson aim for the foot with their marketing pistol as the W550i has no 3.5mm jack, so should you want to use your own headphones (like our Shure E2c's) then you have to use a rather bulky dongle which connects to the phone and provides the 3.5mm jack.

Battery life may be a big worry when you start to wonder what the effect will be of using the W550i in Walkman mode, our first test leaving the walkman playing songs on a loop killed the phone in just under 16 hours. Then a more realistic test of a few calls, moderate use of the walkman (equivalent to 2 hours a day) meant the phone lasted around 2 days before needing a top-up. Not quite the 7 day standby quoted by Sony or the 8 hours talk time.

A few nice touches include some rather smart games to play, MMS and SMS plus a quiet useable email client, Also if the rather striking orange cover is too garish for you then its reassuring to know that there are a few other snap on covers to swap with.

We can report that the phone features work a treat with excellent RF performance meaning hardly any dropped calls and good reception in even marginal signal areas, the phonebook is as good as the rest of the SE range, with quick dials, Bluetooth for hands free and even infrared.

Sadly by this point we'd made our minds up and all the nice touches and the chunky yet reassuring feel of the W550i in our mitts wasn't enough to make up for the fact that we had a good sounding easy to use MP3 player that has less storage than an ant's bum bag. Clearly Sony have to differentiate their products but there is little point crippling products!

If you are happy with just 256mb of memory or are prepared to use the USB 2.0 connection to fill up your W550i then the Sony Ericsson W550i does make an excellent phone, but if like us you have a bit fore than 100 MP3's then you'll always wish you'd gone for the W800i.

Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP)

The PlayStation Portable (PSP) was officially announced at Sony's E3 Conference on May 11th 2004 and was released in Japan on December 12th 2004 at a price of 19 800 Yen, with a North American release on March 24th 2005, and European and Australian releases in mid 2005.

The PSP, as the name suggests, is like a portable version of Sony's popular PlayStation and PlayStation 2. It is capable of playing 3D games on it's 16:9 widescreen colour TFT LCD screen with 480 x 272 pixel resolution and 16.77 million colour palette.

The controls are similar to the PlayStation controller and also features an analogue stick. Games are stored on UMD (Universal Media Discs) which are about 65mm in diameter and can hold up to 1.8GB of digital media. The system also comes with a USB 2.0 port and 802.11 (Wi-Fi) wireless LAN, providing connectivity to various wireless devices including other PSPs for multiplayer games. The wireless and USB connections also allow for the downloading of data and software, online gaming and networking to memory stick PRO Duo.

Weighing around only 260 grams and measuring 170mm x 74mm x 23mm, this is certainly one compact device, loaded with a lot of features.

GameBoy Advance : PSP's grandpa

Nintendo unveiled the GameBoy Advance on August 24th 2000 at Spaceworld in Tokyo, Japan after talks of the console going back to a year before. It was released to the public on March 21st 2001 for a price of 9800 yen. Nintendo felt it was time to upgrade the capabilities of their GameBoy console after over a decade on the market and many changes in appearance, size and a colour screen (GameBoy Color).

The GameBoy Advance is what Nintendo wanted to achieve with Project Atlantis (a 32-bit colour handheld that was backwards compatible). It is almost the exact same size as the GameBoy Color, but held lengthwise with the buttons at the sides and the screen in the middle. It features all the same buttons as the other GameBoys except for two extras on top (shoulder buttons). The screen is wider and larger than the normal GameBoy screen. GameBoy Advance is fully backwards compatible with GameBoy and GameBoy Color games which means you have access to a huge library of titles. GameBoy Advance take cartridges which are about half the size of normal GameBoy carts.

The GameBoy Advance can be attached to the Nintendo GameCube and games will interface between the two consoles.

On January 6 2003, Nintendo announce the GameBoy Advance SP, a more compact version of the GameBoy Advance that features a number of improvements on the original GameBoy Advance including a frontlit screen and a recharagable battery with up to 18 hours play time (with the screen light turned off; 10 hours with the light turned on). The battery can be fully recharged through the system itself within 3 hours. The SP version also comes with a multi-access port that is used for the AC adaptor and will also accept headphones if you use the special adaptor that Nintendo has also developed.

The GameBoy Advance SP was released in Japan on 14th Febrary 2003 for 14 500 yen and later released in the US on March 23rd 2003 at the price of $99US.

Although the GameBoy Advance is 32-bit, there is no 3D processor, so games will be mostly 2D (they look similar to Sega 32X games).

Nintendo 64 : Sony Plastation's cousin

The Nintendo 64 was originally code-named Project Reality and was to be called the Ultra 64. The release date, June 23 1996 in Japan. It was then released in USA on 26 September in the same year for US$199. Other countries followed soon after.

This 64-bit console used cartridges rather than CDs, which were being used in competitors 32-bit consoles. The main competitor of the Nintendo 64 was Sony's Playstation. The Nintendo 64 had many advantages over the other consoles, thanks to Silicon Graphics. There is a huge difference in loading times between a CD and a cartridge. This was one benefit, but then cartridges cannot give the same "CD-quality" sound.

The Nintendo 64 had some great games. This console would be good for kids, not only because of the many G-rated games (but it still had a lot of games that would appeal to adults too), but also because it's so fun to put together! Connecting all the little add-ons can be fun - the power supply, controller, controller pak, rumble pak, expansion pak. The controller of this console was an excellent design as well, especially with the analogue control stick, as well as the fact that you didn't have to buy a whole new controller if you wanted to play rumble games (like you did with Playstation's Dual Shock controllers).

The Nintendo 64 was first released in grey, but other colours soon followed. The console was quite a big success, but not as much as the Sony Playstation. In the end, Nintendo sold over 30 million Nintendo 64s worldwide.

A touching story

What would you do? You make the choice! Don't look for a punch line; There
isn't one! Read it anyway. My question to all of you is: Would you have
made the same choice?

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning disabled children,the
father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten
by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff,
he offered a question:

"When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature
does is done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as
other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do. Where
is the natural order of things in my son?"

The audience was stilled by the query.

The father continued. "I believe,that when a child like Shay, physically
and mentally handicapped comes into the world, an opportunity to realize
true human nature presents itself, and it comes, in the way other people
treat that child."Then he told the following story:

Shay and his father had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were
playing baseball. Shay asked,"Do you think they'll let me play?"
Shay's father knew that most of the boys would not want someone ! like
Shay on their team, but the father also understood that if his son were
allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and
some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.

Shay's father approached one of the boys on the field and asked if Shay
could play, not expecting much. The boy looked around for guidance and
said, "We're losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning.
I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning."
Shay struggled over to the team's bench put on a team shirt with a broad
smile and his Father had a small tear in his eye and warmth in his heart.
The boys saw the father's joy at his son being accepted. In the bottom
of the eighth inning, Shay's team scored a few runs but was still behind
by three. In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played
in the right field. Even though no hits ! came his way, he was obviously
ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to
ear as his father waved to him from the stands. In the bottom of the ninth
inning, Shay's team scored again. Now, with two outs and the bases loaded,
the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.

At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win
the game? Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit
was all but impossible 'cause Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat
properly, much less connect with the ball.
However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing the
other team putting winning aside for this moment in Shay's life, moved
in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least be able
to make contact. The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed.
The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards
Shay. As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground
ball right back to the pitcher.

The game would now be over, but the pitcher picked up the soft grounder
and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman. Shay would
have been out and that would have been the end of the game.

Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the head of the first baseman,
out of reach of all team mates. Everyone from the stands and both teams
started yelling, "Shay, run to first! Run to first!" Never in
his life had Shay ever ran that far but made it to first base. He scampered
down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.

Everyone yelled, "Run to second, run to second!"

Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling
to make it to second base. By the time Shay rounded towards second base,
the right fielder had the ball, the smallest guy on their team, who had
a chance to be the hero for his team for the first time. He could have
thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the
pitcher's intentions and he too intentionally threw the ball high and far
over the third-baseman's head. Shay ran toward third base deliriously as
the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home.

All were screaming, "Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay"

Shay reached third base, the opposing shortstop ran to help him and turned
him in the direction of third base, and shouted, "Run to third Shay,
run to third" As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams and
those watching were on their feet were screaming, "Shay, run home!

World condemns Jones's racist remark

FORMER Australian batsman Dean Jones has become the latest commentator to fall victim to the curse of the off-air microphone. But unlike Tony Greig and Ian Chappell, Jones has lost a contract worth a tax-free $US2000 ($2615) a day, and his television employment prospects look bleak.

Jones offended viewers of South Africa's SuperSport network, which carried the feed from the Dubai-based production company Ten Sports, when he stated, "The terrorist has got another wicket" during what he thought to be an advertisement break. The statement referred to Hashim Amla, a coloured South African batsman and devout Muslim, who had just caught Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara during the second Test in Colombo.

The production company that hired Jones, the Dubai-based Ten Sports, has terminated his contract with "immediate effect," according to its communication director Ray Reed.

"This is a deal-breaker for us and he won't be employed again," Reed said. "We are a company with a diverse range of employees and we take a zero-tolerance approach to comments like that."

Jones is hardly the first cricket commentator to land in hot water for comments he believed to be off-air but he will most likely be treated the most harshly. In 1999, Greig uttered, "Do you think she has been flown in" - a mail-order bride reference - when cameras panned to a wedding reception behind North Sydney Oval that involved a caucasian man and Asian woman. And Chappell was recorded swearing, again in the belief that his microphone was off, during a match he was covering.

In those cases, the punishments were mild. Jones, however, has not just raised the ire of South African viewers and his former employers, he has also infuriated the International Cricket Council. "We are in the process of beefing up our anti-racism code as we speak, and this kind of comment is completely unacceptable," ICC media manager Brian Murgatroyd said.

Will broadcasters dare raise the ICC's ire by hiring Jones? Certainly Ten Sports won't be. Owned by Abdul Rahman Bukhatir, Ten is the largest broadcaster of cricket in the world and the company with which Jones established himself as a star of the subcontinent.

Jones was apparently standing at the back of the commentary box when Amla, noted for his refusal to wear a brewery logo on his shirt to keep with his Muslim beliefs, took a catch to dismiss Sangakkara.

"I'm employed in the next two months, so I'm OK," Jones told the Herald yesterday, without revealing where he would be working.

Last night, Melbourne radio station 3AW, for whom Jones has worked as a full-time commentator during the summer months in the past two years, insisted it would not drop him from its coverage this coming season.

"He is still a, quote-unquote, required player," program director Clark Forbes said. "We wouldn't be changing our contractual arrangements on that basis."

Jones arrived back in Melbourne last night and said he had apologised to Amla. "I got hold of Hashim Amla and I spoke to him for a certain amount of time," said Jones. "I gave him my sincerest apologies and he was gracious enough to accept it. He said, 'I hope you get through this ugly situation that you are going through'."

Before leaving Colombo, Jones said in a statement: "It was a silly and completely insensitive thing to say and, obviously, it was never supposed to be heard over the air. I am truly sorry to have caused offence to anybody and the last thing I intended was to be disrespectful.

"Everyone needs to get away from perpetuating the myth, publicly and privately, that beards associated with the Muslim faith are somehow suspicious, and I intend to do exactly that. The irony is that I am great friends with most of the Pakistan team and they are all Muslims. I have no end of respect for the Muslim faith - that's why I'm so sorry at making such a stupid comment. It does not represent who I am, how I think or what I believe."

Gerald Majola, the chief executive of Cricket South Africa, was scathing. "This kind of insulting racial stereotyping has no place in cricket and must be stamped on swiftly," he said.
A HISTORY OF HUMILIATION

2006: Former Australian batsman now commentator Dean Jones refers to South African batsman Hashim Amla as a "terrorist". Amla is a Muslim. Jones is axed by his employer, Ten Sports.

- The ICC deploys an investigator, Goolam Vahanvati, to look into allegations that Australian crowds called South African cricketers "kaffirs".

- 2005: Waratahs forward Justin Harrison was suspended for three Super 12 matches for calling Cats winger Chumani Booi a "black c---" during a match in Johannesburg.

- 2003: Australian batsman Darren Lehmann is suspended for five one-day matches for audibly uttering "black c----" after his dismissal by Sri Lanka in a limited-overs match at the Gabba.

- 2001: During a five-set match against American tennis player James Blake, Lleyton Hewitt attempted to have a black linesman removed by telling the chair umpire: "Look at him and you tell me what the similarity is." Hewitt later denied the comment was made on racial grounds.

Many political (non-scientist) people argue and warn about global warming to promote modern and improvised products like hybrid cars and ethanol used or electric cars.

They warn about fossil fuel consumption and emissions which are making glaciers in the Artic and Antartic Ocean to melt. This increases the quantum of water on Earth and reduces land size.

For other parts of the world that becomes a problem because of increase of population but America has no worries because the land size is enough to accomadate India and China(1+1 billion pop) in their Walmart Super Centers in the country.

It is natures way to take care of the emissions released in air because the wind blows hot and cold air constantly.

The brush fires in America which are lit delibrately(to make way for future building construction) or by nature wams the earth's crust. The 50ft burial instead of normal 6ft created by dropping 50 to 20,000 lbs bombs on terrorist in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon using depleted uranium and atom bomb on Japan has certainly caused the Earth to warm up in past 50/60 years.

Remember the SARS (Severe Accute Respiratory Syndrome) which was blamed as caused by some living species in China. How can people have respiratory problem eating these species?

The bombs dropped on Afghanistan contained depleted uranium and the wind that blows West to East carried the smoke from these bombs towards China. Fortunately, Pakistan and India were spared. Do we hear any problems of SARS after the initial bombing of Afghanistan?

But the most important issue of global warming is drilling.
The formula is E = MC^2

Energy(Heat) is created when Mass(drilling shaft) is drilling at fast speed to extract oil and natural gas all over Middle East, Alaska, Russia, Nigeria, Ameirca, Venezuela, etc.....

A teacher asks a student how he would measure the height of a very tall building using a barometer, evidently expecting to hear about the reduced air pressure being proportionate to the elevation ....

The student replies: Tie the barometer to a long string, lower the string till the barometer touches the ground, measure the length of the string !

However, what follows is much more interesting: This highly original answer so incensed the examiner that the student was failed.

The student appealed on the grounds that his answer was indisputably correct, and the university appointed an independent arbiter to decide the case. The arbiter judged that the answer was indeed correct, but did not display any noticeable knowledge of physics.

To resolve the problem it was decided to call the student in and allow him six minutes in which to provide a verbal answer which showed at least a minimal familiarity with the basic principles of physics.

For five minutes the student sat in silence, forehead creased in thought. The arbiter reminded him that time was running out, to which the student replied that he had several extremely relevant answers, but couldn't make up his mind which to use. Have you ever wondered what would be in "Titanic" if the same was made in Bollywood? The name of the movie would be "Goa to Bombay". Well here it goes!

* Madhuri has to be Rose and who else but Shahrukh as JJJJJ JJJ Jack. Madhuri's fiance would be Gulshan Grover who mutters "bad man" everytime he sees Shahrukh .

* Amitabh Bacchan would make a guest appearance as the Ship's captain and would be waltzing with Madhuri during the party. Of course, he would not die.

* Shahrukh will be travelling with his sister and 5 other chamchas from college plus 50 extras who are well trained with every dance sequence in the world.

* The movie would only last for 7 hours. Thanks to great piece of editing, there would be only 22 songs in the movie out of 30 in CD album.

* The ship would be overflowing with extras whom you normally find in movies that have a court scene full of people or a slum full of aam-janta. The ship will start sinking, not because of the iceberg but because of excessive on-board population.

* The infamous lovemaking in the back seat of the car would be replaced with a song in the Swiss Alps.

* Best friend of Shahrukh will save his sister from being raped during chaos.The sister will instantly fall in love right after this and she will also get a song or two.

* Remember Rose changing her mind about jumping into the water? In our case, Madhuri changes her mind, since...since... the ship is moving along a creek and the water stinks!

* How can we forget the painting scene? Shahrukh would be painting Madhuri's portrait with Madhuri fully covered minus the locket (Censors yaar!). This is to be followed by a dance number, with extras of course, in a art gallery .

* Shahrukh would eventually find his long lost mom Aasoo Devi on the ship. Only during the climax would Aasoo Devi tell Shahrukh about how Gulshan troubled them. Shahrukh would then yell, "Kutte mein tera khoon pee jaaoonga". The ensuing fight would only last for an hour.

* There would be an antakshari for the "drowners" conducted by Annu Kapoor instead of the trio playing the violin.

* Most important!! The number of times the word "Bachaoooo" would be yelled would be a record in the history of cinema.

And the masterpiece would be waste of time...ooops waste of money without...

Computer viruses are like real-life viruses: When they're flying around infecting every PC (or person) in sight, they're scary. But after the fact...well, they're rather interesting, albeit in a gory kind of way. With this in mind, we present, in chronological order, the 10 most destructive viruses of all time.

CIH (1998):

Estimated Damage: 20 to 80 million dollars worldwide, countless amounts of PC data destroyed
Unleashed from Taiwan in June of 1998, CIH is recognized as one of the most dangerous and destructive viruses ever. The virus infected Windows 95, 98, and ME executable files and was able to remain resident in a PC's memory, where it continued to infect other executables.

What made CIH so dangerous is that, shortly after activated, it would overwrite data on the host PC's hard drive, rendering it inoperable. It was also capable of overwriting the BIOS of the host, preventing boot-up. Because it infected executable files, CIH wound up being distributed by numerous software distributors, including a demo version of an Activision game named Sin.

CIH is also known as the Chernobyl virus because the trigger date of certain strains of the virus coincides with the date of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor accident. The virus is not a serious threat today, thanks to increased awareness and the widespread migration to Windows 2000, XP, and NT, none of which are vulnerable to CIH.

Melissa (1999)
Estimated Damage: 300 to 600 million dollars

On Friday, March 26, 1999, W97M/Melissa became front-page news across the globe. Estimates have indicated that this Word macro script infected 15 to 20 percent of all business PCs. The virus spread so rapidly that Intel, Microsoft, and a number of other companies that used Outlook were forced to shut down their entire e-mail systems in order to contain the damage.

The virus used Microsoft Outlook to e-mail itself to 50 names on a user's contact list. The e-mail message contained the sentence, "Here is that document you asked for...don't show anyone else. ;-)," with an attached Word document. Clicking open the .DOC file -- and thousands of unsuspecting users did so -- allowed the virus to infect the host and repeat the replication. Adding insult to injury, when activated, this virus modified users' Word documents with quotes from the animated TV show "The Simpsons."

ILOVEYOU (2000)

Estimated Damage: 10 to 15 billion dollars

Also known as Loveletter and The Love Bug, this was a Visual Basic script with an ingenious and irresistible hook: the promise of love. On May 3, 2000, the ILOVEYOU worm was first detected in Hong Kong. The bug was transmitted via e-mail with the subject line "ILOVEYOU" and an attachment, Love-Letter-For-You.TXT.vbs. Similar to Melissa, the virus mailed itself to all Microsoft Outlook contacts.

The virus also took the liberty of overwriting music files, image files, and others with a copy of itself. More disturbingly, it searched out user IDs and passwords on infected machines and e-mailed them to its author.

An interesting footnote: Because the Philippines had no laws against virus-writing at the time, the author of ILOVEYOU was not charged for this crime.

Code Red (2001)

Estimated Damage: 2.6 billion dollars

Code Red was a computer worm that was unleashed on network servers on July 13, 2001. It was a particularly virulent bug because of its target: computers running Microsoft's Internet Information Server (IIS) Web server. The worm was able to exploit a specific vulnerability in the IIS operating system. Ironically, Microsoft had released a patch addressing this hole in mid-June.

Also known as Bady, Code Red was designed for maximum damage. Upon infection, the Web site controlled by the affected server would display the message, "HELLO! Welcome to http://www.worm.com! Hacked By Chinese!" Then the virus would actively seek other vulnerable servers and infect them. This would go on for approximately 20 days, and then it would launch denial of service attacks on certain IP addresses, including the White House Web server. In less than a week, this virus infected almost 400,000 servers, and it's estimated that one million total computers were infected.

SQL Slammer (2003)

Estimated Damage: Because SQL Slammer erupted on a Saturday, the damage was low in dollars and cents. However, it hit 500,000 servers worldwide, and actually shut down South Korea's online capacity for 12 hours.

SQL Slammer, also known as Sapphire, was launched on January 25, 2003. It was a doozy of a worm that had a noticeable negative impact upon global Internet traffic. Interestingly enough, it didn't seek out end users' PCs. Instead, the target was servers. The virus was a single-packet, 376-byte worm that generated random IP addresses and sent itself to those IP addresses. If the IP address was a computer running an unpatched copy of Microsoft's SQL Server Desktop Engine, that computer would immediately begin firing the virus off to random IP addresses as well.

With this remarkably effective way of spreading, Slammer infected 75,000 computers in 10 minutes. The outrageously high amounts of traffic overloaded routers across the globe, which created higher demands on other routers, which shut them down, and so on.

Blaster (2003)

Estimated Damage: 2 to 10 billion dollars, hundreds of thousands of infected PCs

The summer of 2003 was a rough time for businesses running PCs. In rapid succession, IT professionals witnessed the unleashing of both the Blaster and Sobig worms. Blaster, also known as Lovsan or MSBlast, was the first to hit. The virus was detected on August 11 and spread rapidly, peaking in just two days. Transmitted via network and Internet traffic, this worm exploited a vulnerability in Windows 2000 and Windows XP, and when activated, presented the PC user with a menacing dialog box indicating that a system shutdown was imminent.

Hidden in the code of MSBLAST.EXE -- the virus' executable " were these messages: "I just want to say LOVE YOU SAN!!" and "billy gates why do you make this possible? Stop making money and fix your software!!"

The virus also contained code that would trigger a distributed denial of service attack on windowsupdate.com on April 15, but Blaster had already peaked and was mostly contained by then.

Sobig.F (2003)

Estimated Damage: 5 to 10 billion dollars, over 1 million PCs infected

The Sobig worm hit right on the heels of Blaster, making August 2003 a miserable month for corporate and home PC users. The most destructive variant was Sobig.F, which spread so rapidly on August 19 that it set a record (which would later be broken by MyDoom), generating over 1 million copies of itself in its first 24 hours.

The virus infected host computers via innocuously named e-mail attachments such as application.pif and thank_you.pif. When activated, this worm transmitted itself to e-mail addresses discovered on a host of local file types. The end result was massive amounts of Internet traffic.

On September 10, 2003, the virus deactivated itself and is no longer a threat. Microsoft has announced a $250,000 bounty for anyone who identifies Sobig.F's author, but to date, the perpetrator has not been caught.

Bagle (2004)

Estimated Damage: Tens of millions of dollars...and counting

Bagle, a classic but sophisticated worm, made its debut on January 18, 2004. The malicious code infected users' systems via the traditional mechanism -- an e-mail attachment -- and then scoured Windows files for e-mail addresses it could use to replicate itself.

The real danger of Bagle (a.k.a. Beagle) and its 60 to 100 variants is that, when the worm infects a PC, it opens a back door to a TCP port that can be used by remote users and applications to access data -- financial, personal, anything -- on the infected system. According to an April 2005 TechWeb story, the worm is "usually credited with starting the malware-for-profit movement among hackers, who prior to the ground-breaking worm, typically were motivated by notoriety."

The Bagle.B variant was designed to stop spreading after January 28, 2004, but numerous other variants of the virus continue to plague users to this day.

MyDoom (2004)

For a period of a few hours on January 26, 2004, the MyDoom shockwave could be felt around the world as this worm spread at an unprecedented rate across the Internet via e-mail. The worm, also known as Norvarg, spread itself in a particularly devious manner: It transmitted itself as an attachment in what appeared to be an e-mail error message containing the text "Mail Transaction Failed." Clicking on the attachment spammed the worm to e-mail addresses found in address books. MyDoom also attempted to spread via the shared folders of users' Kazaa peer-to-peer networking accounts.

The replication was so successful that computer security experts have speculated that one in every 10 e-mail messages sent during the first hours of infection contained the virus. MyDoom was programmed to stop spreading after February 12, 2004.

Sasser (2004)

Estimated Damage: Tens of millions of dollars

Sasser began spreading on April 30, 2004, and was destructive enough to shut down the satellite communications for some French news agencies. It also resulted in the cancellation of several Delta airline flights and the shutdown of numerous companies' systems worldwide.

Unlike most previous worms, Sasser was not transmitted via e-mail and required no user interaction to spread. Instead the worm exploited a security flaw in non-updated Windows 2000 and Windows XP systems. When successfully replicated, the worm would actively scan for other unprotected systems and transmit itself to them. Infected systems experienced repeated crashes and instability.

Sasser was written by a 17-year-old German high school student, who released the virus on his 18th birthday. Because he wrote the code when he was a minor, a German court found him guilty of computer sabotage but gave him a suspended sentence.

Question:

Why do Muslims bury dead bodies instead of cremating them, i.e. burning them?

Answer:

1. Components of human body present in the soil
Elements that are present in the human body are present in lesser or greater quantity in the soil. Hence it is more scientific to bury a dead body, as it easily gets decomposed and mixed in the soil.

2. No Pollution
Cremating (burning) the dead body leads to pollution of the atmosphere which is detrimental to health and harmful for the environment. There is no such pollution caused by burying a dead body.

3. Surrounding land becomes fertile
To cremate a dead body several trees have to be chopped, which reduces the greenery and harms the environment and the ecology. When dead bodies are buried, besides the trees being saved, the surrounding land becomes fertile and it improves the environment.

4. Economical
It is expensive to cremate a dead body when tons of wood have to be burned. Annually there is a loss of crores of rupees, only because dead bodies are cremated in India. Burying dead bodies is very cheap. It hardly costs any money.

5. Same land can be utilised for burying another body
The wood used for cremating a dead body cannot be reutilised for cremating another dead body since it gets converted to ashes. The land used for burying a dead body can be reutilised for burying another body after a few years since the human body gets decomposed and mixed in the soil.

Burying of the body, at least in Europe does not allow the mixing and decomposing into the soil - to safegaurd the environment / specially the ground water. Nowadays the caskets are made airtight and leak proof so as not to allow any leakage or contamination of the soil (thats why these caskets are very expensive) - if one compares the cost of these caskets then cremation would come out to be cheaper . Also, even if the same place can be used for burial again, but the earlier body is not just thrown away but occupies space at some other distant spot where rich person would not like to get buried. As for the cremation, I know in most of the cities there are provision of electrical cremation which allows saving of environment and trees.
I feel the best way of disposing of dead bodies is in Parsis who neither bury or cremate the dead.

The Technics SL-1200 is a series of turntables manufactured by Matsushita under the brand name of Technics. As of 2006, the Technics SL-1200MK2 is the industry standard turntable for DJ'ing and scratching, MK2 stands for Mark 2, and is an improvement of the Technics SL-1200 first made in October 1972. The MK2 was released in 1978 had several improvements including the motor and casing. Since 1972, more than 3 million units have been sold.

It is widely regarded as the most durable and reliable turntable ever produced, as most of the models which were manufactured in the '70s are still in heavy use.

Features:

The features that set this turntable apart are:

A magnetic (no wear), direct drive (low slip) mechanism
High torque (1.5 kgf·cm or 150 mN·m), which means the platter will spin at the desired speed almost immediately (0.7 s to reach 33-1/3 rpm from standstill)

Models:

The original SL-1200, released in 1972, was marketed as a hi-fi turntable.
The SL-1200MK2, released in 1978, has a silver finish. This was a continuing trend as later 1200 models would be silver and 1210 models would be matt black. Technics improved the motor, shock resistance, added a ground wire, and changed the rotary pitch control to a slider style. This is now considered the baseline model, and is the oldest still in production.
The SL-1210MK2 is the matte black version of SL-1200MK2. It used to be unavailable from official Panasonic dealers on the USA market, until Technics released SL-1210MK2PK, a USA-only piano (Gloss) black model.

The SL-1210M3D (1997) adds a quartz lock button which resets pitch to 0 immediately.
The SL-1210MK4 (1997) has no quartz lock but does have a 78, with a reverse function rpm option (other models only have 33 rpm and 45 rpm), and all the hardware is plated with platinum. It was also only available in japan.
The SL-1210MK5 increases the anti-skate settings from 0 to 3 to 0 to 6.
The SL-1210M5G was launched in Japan on 1 November 2002 (together with the MK5) and is a special 30th anniversary edition of the SL-1200. The difference from the MK5 model is the ability to switch between ±8% and ±16% ranges for pitch adjustment, it also featured blue target lights and blue pitch number illumination.
Finally there are the limited edition gold finishings of the SL-1200LTD (1998) and SL-1200GLD (2004) models, the latter also having a blue instead of the usual white target light. The SL-1200LTD is based on the MK3D and the SL-1200GLD is based on the M5G.

How do I get started making money with Google AdSense?

I've been reading a bit about how people can make money off their Web site by joining up with the Google AdSense program, but I really don't understand how it all works. Do I need to find advertisers? Do I bill them for showing up on my site? Or does Google do all this? Thanks a million (hopefully!)

You're not alone in being interested in the terrific Google AdSense program. Leveraging its powerful page analysis system, Google's AdSense program automatically matches the best possible advertisements with the content on your Web page, making the ads magically quite relevant to your content.

Behind the scenes, it works like this: an advertiser goes to the Google AdWords system, signs up, and creates one or more advertisements that they want to pay to have appear either on Google's search result pages or on "content pages". Those content pages are Web sites run by individuals and organizations that include AdSense, which is the "consume" side of this equation.

What makes this more interesting is that advertisers don't pay to have their adverts show up on either Google or separate content sites, but instead pay when the ads are clicked by customers, what we call "pay per click" or PPC. A percentage of the amount that the company pays Google for displaying the ad is then shared with the AdSense-enabled web site owner.

If, say, the advertiser pays $1.00 for a visitor to their site through AdWords, then Google will pay a percentage of that amount (the exactly amount has not been stated by the company) to you, perhaps $0.20, perhaps more.

I realize that $0.20 doesn't sound like much money, but if you have a few hundred visitors a week, and some percentage of them click on these adverts, you could easily make $20-$50 or much (much!) more from your site each week, without having to do any work other than add the special AdSense code to the pages in the first place.

It's simple, easy to accomplish, you never have to negotiate (or even talk) with advertisers, you don't have to bill anyone at all, and every month or two you'll get a nice little check from Google corporate. Nice!

So let's talk about the exact steps required to actually get going with the AdSense program. First and foremost, you need to sign up for the AdSense program, which you can do by clicking in the cheery button:

Note that when you sign up, you'll need to specify a Web site or weblog that you plan on incorporating AdSense: not every site is approved, however, so make sure yours has valuable and unique content and a design that doesn't include too many advertisements.

Once you're approved, it's time to log in and configure your new AdSense advertisement to include on your site!

When you first log in, you'll see the following navigational bar:

Click on "AdSense for Content" and you'll be ready to configure your ad. Now, don't worry: configuration is pretty easy and kinda fun too, you get to pick colors, sizes, and much more.

Once you've clicked on the "AdSense for Content" tab, your next step will be to decide what type of advertisements you want Google to serve up on your own pages

I suggest you start out with a text "Ad unit", as shown here: the other type of content adverts are less generally useful, less flexible, and typically also have a much lower payout, according to the grapevine. When you are ready, note that you can learn more about the different formats by clicking on any of the last three lines in that view.

The next section of your task is to specify the format and layout of your AdSense ad, and there are a rather amazing number of different size and format options. Google has a helpful AdSense Ad Format Reference Page that's worth a quick peek.

Here at Ask Dave Taylor, I use a Leaderboard (728x90) on the top of the home page and a Large Rectangle (336x280) on this very page. Your layout will inevitably be different and you might choose a different layout entirely. Further, you are allowed to have up to three different ad units on a given page, so you can experiment with them one atop the other, adjacent to each other, or interspersed with your content. Just try to remember that if there's no content, there's no page. :-)

Now that you've picked an ad layout size (and yes, you can change it at any time too) it's time to have the most fun: changing the color scheme of the ad itself. My handy tip: use a border color that's the same as the background color of your page (as I do on this page) so that it's less overt that the ads are actually advertisements. It helps people not gloss over them and, hopefully, click on the ads a bit more frequently.

The built-in color schemes are nice too, of course, if you want to use them, but just as with the sizes, I strongly recommend that you experiment with different color schemes and see if you get a better percentage of clickthrus and greater revenue. Perhaps every Sunday night you can change to another color scheme and then track week-by-week what works best?

The next step is to specify an alternate Ad URL or color, and a specific channel for your ad

The idea behind alternate ads is that sometimes no advertisers have bid on advertising for the keywords, leading Google to a pickle: what to display? By default, it instead displays public service ads (PSAs), but if you want to create an HTML snippet that produces the same size content, you can use that instead, or, you can simply have a solid box in the color of your choice that blends into the design of your site.

I am a much stronger supporter of channels, however. Channels let you organize your AdSense results by Web site (if you have more than one site) or by areas of your site. On this site, for example, I have a channel for "home page leaderboard" and another for "large rectangle" so I can compare how each format is doing, rather than just guessing in the aggregate. It's much easier to start correctly than to retrofit this sort of thing, so take the time and set up a basic channel or two to begin categorizing your results.

Finally, you've made all the settings you need and it's time to grab the HTML snippet that'll generate the ad block on your own site!

Your specifics will be a bit different from what you see in this screen shot, but the code will generally look identical. Just select all the text in the box, then use Edit --> Copy to get that code into your copy/paste buffer.

Now open up a page where you'd like to include the AdSense code, or a template if you're working with something like a weblog system, and paste in the new code by using Edit --> Paste.

Save your template and rebuild your site, or, if it's just a page, save the page back onto the server and bring it up in your web browser. That's it!

Important Warning: do not click on your ads!

I think one of the most common mistakes that new AdSense participants make is to click on an advert or three to "make a quick buck". Sounds good in theory, but you'll end up kicked out of the AdSense program if you click on ads shown on your own pages, which is not a good strategy for earning money!

Anyway, that's the basic set of steps. Don't delay and don't wait for tomorrow: pop back up to the beginning of this article to sign up for AdSense, then go through these steps and you can start turning your cost center of a Web site into a revenue generation system, modest or otherwise!

Opera vs Firefox and Thunderbird

Why

A frequent dig by Firefox fans at Opera is that Opera is "bloated".
Usually what is meant by that is that the default user interface is more
complicated relative to Firefox. In the past this was true, but the latest
version of Opera is much more streamlined in that area, so I thought it worthy
of a test.

"Bloat" could also refer to higher resource requirements (memory,
CPU, hard drive), given that Opera
has so many more features built-in compared to Firefox. So I wanted to
investigate that, too.

Test Environment

Test machine was a VMware 4.5.2 virtual machine running a clean installation
of Windows 2000 (SP3) in 192MB of memory and video set to 1024×768 and
32-bit colour. Host machine is a 1GHz Athlon, 512MB memory, nVidia GeForce 4
440MX video card, Windows 2000 SP3. Tests were conducted on 20^th
April 2005.

The most space efficient Opera ads were selected - the Google relevant text
ads. The graphical ads would reduce the available space by 30 pixels of vertical
space (to 1018×576 (75%)) and reveal the main toolbar, adding 9 buttons.
Registration of Opera removes the ads, increasing available page display space
to 1018×636 (82%).

By default, Firefox does not show the tab bar. That would add one extra

Approximate times. 1536/256kbps ADSL link. The above 20 sites were bookmarked
into a folder and the "open all folder items" option selected. The
start page for each browser was set to "about:blank", Java was
disabled, popups blocked, caches were cleared. The Windows Task Manager was
running "always on top". Of note was that after loading all the
pages, Opera averaged a 30% CPU load and Firefox about 10%, presumably to
handle image animation, background JavaScript, etc.

Each browser was tested five times, the best and worst results discarded,
the average (arithmetic mean) of the remaining three tests is the final
result. Popup blocking was disabled. The raw results were: Opera (13.64,
14.80, 14.86, 14.97, 14.80), Firefox (29.44, 26.78, 28.44, 29.39, 29.22).

Email Client Comparison

To do this, I exported my "live" Opera mail Received folder (3504
messages) into a single 54.1MB MBS file. These messages were then each imported
into a fresh install of Opera and Thunderbird. Since Thunderbird doesn't support
importing plain MBOX files, I followed
these
instructions to copy the MBOX file directly into a new folder file.

Includes the "New page" and "Closed page" buttons, which
are really only applicable to web browsing, not doing emails.

Includes selecting the "Received" folder in Opera, and the
"Imported" folder in Thunderbird.

Opera's time here is much quicker than the browser time because a blank page
was selected as the starting page, whereas the browser time includes loading and
rendering the default startup web page. If Opera was being used only as a mail
client (like Thunderbird is only a mail client), then loading a web page doesn't
seem likely.

Summary

Download and Storage Requirements

Opera is a smaller download, definitely still important for the many people
still on dialup. Particularly when browsers are regularly updated.

Once installed, Opera uses 9MB less space than Firefox. If all you consider
is the size of your hard drive, that doesn't sound like much, however, many
people install a browser onto their USB thumb drive (~128MB) or onto a mini-CD
(~50MB). In those situations, every MB counts, and Opera delivers.

For email storage, Opera requires about 15% more space than Thunderbird,
presumably for the indexing used for the lightning-fast text searches.

Memory Requirements

Opera requires a little more memory than that required by Firefox to surf
the 'net. Firefox releases much more when minimised, which has resulted in some
complaints that Firefox takes too long, sometimes over a minute, to "wake
up" when restored. Restoration seems to be a mixed bag with a variety of
results.

CPU Requirements

Firefox was much faster than Opera when loading the 20 test sites. This was
the only significant difference between this and my earlier tests last year. In
those tests Firefox was similar to Opera.

Since this was such a big change, I looked a little closer using Ethereal:

It looks like Firefox is able to better utilize the available bandwidth, with
a fairly constant fast transfer, while Opera was not only less consistent, but
slower as well.

Update: I've been contacted by some other Opera users who have been unable
to replicate my thoughput issues. Their experiences were that Opera and Firefox
were basically the same. I'm investigating. Possibilities are that my internet
connection is through a Linux box acting as a firewall and that I'm using a
virtual machine and that those could be doing strange things. However, I would
have thought that those things would influence Opera and Firefox equally.

Another issue that clouds the speed issue is the fact that many web sites do
not compress their data for Opera, but do for IE and Firefox, in spite of the
fact that Opera is just as capable of handling it. Google, Amazon and Yahoo are
three popular sites that have this issue (see also this
Opera Forums
thread). It's unlikely to be deliberate, more a white-list of browsers that
support compression, as opposed to a black-list of browsers that don't. However,
the end result is that due to the lack of compression, Opera is forced to
download a lot more data compared to IE and Firefox, which naturally enough,
makes things slower.

User Interface

Opera Software have significantly improved the default user interface from
their previous versions. The starting state of both browsers is now comparable.
In terms of display area, Firefox squeezes in a few extra pixels.

Conclusion

Opera does not display any evidence of "bloat" of any sort. Apart
from the throughput issues (which may be just my setup), it appears to be
smaller, lighter, and as fast (if not faster) in all respects.

How Adsense will end up paying Thousands of dollars instead of 100 $

One of Internet's most popular Advertising programs, Adsense (Google's) had introduced the new referral program recently.
As per the new terms, if any Adsense client refers a new client and the new client earns the minimum payout amount(ie, 100 $), the referring client gets 100 $ for referring him.

The catch here is that if there were multiple level of referrers, then, Adsense may end up paying out 100 $ to all the referrers.
Consider a scenario in which, A refers B and B refers C and so on.
Finally Y refers Z.
Z implements Adsense effectively and gets the payout(minimum 100 $).
Now, Y gets 100 $ referral amount and gets his payout, thus making X to get 100 $.
It goes up until A gets his 100 $.
It accounts to a total of 2500$ finally.

This is rather bizarre and does not have an explanation yet.
In practice of course this is a highly unlikely scenario but it does emphasize the point that if you ignore the AdSense referral program you could be throwing good money away.

Demergers may create problems for employees in the short term, but studies show that they are beneficial to shareholders

The Ambani brothers have split the Reliance empire and gone their separate ways. Its been headline news. Ignore the acrimony and mudslinging and the key issues that have been the modalities of the break-up: who gets what, and the effect on shareholders. Lost in the process are the employees.

Reliance insiders say that the senior people were given the choice of joining one faction or the other. You can do it for the top brass, but obviously not for the rank and file.

It is also a question of management styles, says Mumbai-based HR consultant D. Singh. They are different. You might not be comfortable with one or with the new corporate culture that may unfold.

There is a lot of management literature on mergers and their effects on employees. Surprisingly, there is very little research on demergers. One reason is that a merger has integration problems as newcomers try to fit into an established corporate culture. In a demerger, there is no outside influence. The employees who are part of the splinter are busy shedding the shackles of their parent organisation.

Besides, there are many more mergers than demergers. The latter are not as popular, says management consultant and author Robert Heller, because even a modest acquisition or merger adds visibly to the managements power. By the same token, a demerger, removing a substantial business from the corporation, subtracts from the managerial might. Secondly, in a demerger the board implicitly concedes that its management cannot win the best possible results from the subsidiary. If the demerger succeeds as when Vodafone was carved out from Racal odious comparisons are bound to be made... Vodafone soared to a market worth many times that of its erstwhile parent... its only human to feel at least a twinge of envy when former subordinates soar into the corporate stratosphere.

Demergers are more common when the market is down and managements are desperate to add to their companys market capitalisation.

A demerger creates problems for employees for several reasons. First, there are the location issues. Second, a demerger creates a smaller company. The employees have to be reassured that they dont lose out on earlier benefits. When CemCo was demerged from Larsen & Toubro, chairman A.M. Naik had to issue several missives to the employees on this score.

When Godrej Soaps went in for a demerger in the middle of 2000, some 1,000 of its 2,650 people were dispatched to Godrej Consumer Products. Chairman Adi Godrej sent a personal letter to all the employees which said: The change will lead to significant opportunities for employees at all levels... Says D. Singh: It made a huge difference.

What is needed at the end of the day is constant reassurance. HR managers need to concentrate on this area because demergers are only going to increase. At GE, Jack Welch conducted some shotgun demergers because of his philosophy that the company should not be in areas where it was not No. 1 or No. 2. Appliances, the core business of GE in another era, went out of the window amid much heartburn.

In this tutorial I will show how to make a key-gen for Ize and Swiftsearch. The protection that these programs use is the well known Enter-Name-and-Registration-Number method. After selecting ‘register’, a window pops up where you can enter your name and your registration number. The strategy here is to find out where in memory the data you enter is stored and then to find out what is done with it. Before you go on make sure you configure the SoftIce dat file according to the PWD tutorial #1.

Part 1: Scanline Swiftsearch 2.0!

Swiftsearch is a useful little program that you can use to search on the web. I will explain step by step how to crack it.

step 1. Start the program

step 2: Choose register from the menus. You will now get a window where you can enter your name and your registration number.

step 3: Enter SoftIce (ctrl-d)

step 4: We will now set a breakpoint on functions like GetWindowText(a) and GetDlgItemText(a) to find out where in memory the data that we just entered is stored. The function that is used by this program is GetDlgItemTexta (trial and error, just try yourself so, in SoftIce type BPX GetDlgItemTexta and exit SoftIce with the g command.

step 5: Now type a name and a registration number (I used razzia and 12345) and press OK, this will put you back in SoftIce. Since you are now inside the GetDlgItemTexta function press F11 to get out of it. You should see the following code:

We see that EAX is loaded with a memory address and then pushed to the stack as a parameter for the function GetDlgItemTextA. Since the function GetDlgItemTextA is already been run we can look at EBP-2c (with ED EDP-2c) and see that the name we entered is there. Now we know where the name is stored in memory, normally it would be wise to write that address down, but we will see that in this case it wont be necessary.

So, what next? Now we have to allow the program to read the registration number we entered. Just type g and return and when back in SoftIce press F11. You should see the following code:

We see that the registration number is stored at location EBP-18 , check it with ED EBP-18. Again, normally it would be wise to note that address down. Also we see that it is checked if the length of the name we gave was not zero. If it is not zero the program will continue.

Step 6: Ok, now we know where the data we entered is stored in memory. What next?
Now we have to find out what is DONE with it. Usually it would we wise to put breakpoints on those memory locations and find out where in the program they are read. But in this case the answer is just a few F10’s away. Press F10 until you see the following code :

These two lines are important. They check if the length of the registration code we entered is equal to 10. If not the registration number will be considered wrong already. The program wont even bother to check it. Modify EBX or the FLAG register in the register window to allow the jump. Continue Pressing F10 until you get to the following code (note that the adresses you will see could be different) :

Bingo. That’s what we entered as the registration number. It should have been what’s inside ESI. And we know what’s inside ESI, the sum of the letters of the name we entered!

Step 7: Now we know how the program computes the registration code we can make a key-gen.
But we should not forget that the program checks also that the registration number has 10
digits.
A simple C code that will compute the registration number for this program could look like this:

Case 2 Ize 2.04 from Gadgetware

Ize from Gadgetware is a cute little program that will put a pair of eyes on your screen which will
follow your mousepointer. It has a register function where you can enter your name and a registration
number. The strategy in this case is still the same : Find out where in memory the entered information
is stored and then find out what is done with that information.

Step 1: Start Ize. Chose register and enter a name and a number. I used ‘razzia’ and ‘12345′.

Sterp 2: Enter (CTRL-D) Softice and set a breakpoint on GetDlgItemTextA.

Step 3: Leave SoftIce and press OK. This will put you back in Softice. You will be inside the GetDlgItemTextA
function. To get out of it press F11. You should see the following code :

We see that the function GetDlgItemTextA is called twice in this code fragment. The first call has
already happened. With ED 40C3A0 we can check that the name we entered is stored on that location.
To allow the program to read in the number we entered we type G and enter. Now we are inside the Get-
DlgItemTextA function again and we press f11 to get out of it. We check memory location 40C210 and
we see the number we entered is stored there.
Now we know the locations were the name and the number are stored,we note those down!

Step 4: Ok, what next? We now know where in memory the name and the number are stored. We need to find out
what the program does with those values. In order to do that we could set breakpoints on those memory
locations to see where they are read. But in this case it wont be necessary. The answer is right after the
above code :

We see a function being called with the number-location as a parameter. We could trace into the function and see what it does, but that is not needed. With your experience of the Swiftsearch
example you should be able to guess what this function does. It calculates the numerical value of the registration number and puts it in EAX. To be sure we step further using F10 untill we are past the call and check the contents of EAX (with ? EAX). In my case it showed : 00003039 0000012345 “09″.

Knowing that EDI contains our registration number we proceed:

We see that a function is called with two parameters. One of the parameters is the location of the name
we entered. The other we dont know, but we can find out with ED 409080. We see the text ‘Ize’.
This function calculates the right registration number using those two parameters. If you just want to
crack this program, you can place a breakpoint right after the call and check the contents of EAX. It will
contain the right registration number. But since we want to know HOW the reg. # is calculated we will trace inside the function (using T). We will then try to find out HOW the contents of EAX got in there.

Step 5: Once inside the interesting function you will see that we are dealing with a rather long function. It wont be necessary for me to include the complete listing of this function, because we wont need all of it to make our key-gen.
But in order find out which part of the code is essential for the computation of the right registration number, you have to trace STEP by STEP and figure out what EXACTLY is going on!

Afther doing this i found out that the first part of the function computes some kind of “key”. Then this
“key” is stored in memory and in that way passed on to the second part of the function.
The second part of the function then computes the right registration number, based on this “key” AND
the name we entered.

The code that is essential and that we need for our key-gen is the following:

The above code consists of a loop that goes trough all the letters of the name we entered. With each
letter some value is calculated, all these values are added up together (in EBP). Then this value is stored
in EAX and the function RETurns. And that was what we were looking for, we wanted to know how EAX got its value!

Step 6: Now to make a key-gen we have to translate the above method of calculating the right reg# into a
c program. It could be done in the following way :

How To Become Invisible

It sounds incredible, doesn't it? Like something straight out of a movie. You'd be right to be sceptical - I was too, when I first heard of the technique. I mean, how can it be possible? Bend light somehow? Use an advanced camouflage method as shown in the James Bond film "Die Another Day"? Make your molecules invisible? Unfortunately, none of these methods are practical. The most promising of them would seem to be the James Bond one - at least a very basic form of that technology has already been demonstrated, though certainly not to the extent shown in the movie. But the method I was taught takes a different approach to the problem. One that I am pleased to be able to reveal to the world.

So will this really make me invisible?

To all human eyes, you will be totally invisible. You will be able to make objects appear to float around the room, you'll be able to walk freely in and out of restricted areas without fear of being spotted, all your fantasies will become true! You are free to use this power as you wish, though I would suggest you are careful - as we shall see, just because you are invisible to other people, it doesn't mean that other animals or security cameras can't see you.

What do you mean?

Well, as you may have guessed by now, the method of invisibility I am about to teach you is based on psychological effects. It's not hypnosis, and it will work on over 99.9% of the people you will encounter on your invisible travels, but it is not 100% foolproof (and I have yet to see proof of any method that is). It also requires a lot of mental effort to sustain the invisibility, so plenty of practise is required. To begin with, you may experience only moments of partial transparency, but with enough training you should be able to go for over an hour in full invisibility. My personal record is over 80 minutes of sustained transparency!

It sounds too good to be true. Let's get started!

Don't try to run before you can walk. There are several key stages which must be perfected before the effect even begins to become noticeable. But stick with it and I guarantee that you will achieve what most people think is impossible. I don't believe there is anything in the technique that would make it unsuitable for any age - as long as you're old enough to understand what I say, and competent enough to use your mind as I instruct, you will be well on the way to becoming invisible.

If this technique is so good, why haven't I seen it on TV?

As mentioned previously, there is a large psychological element to it. This means that although people won't see you, cameras will. Trying to perform the effect on television will only make you look an idiot. The people in the studio might not see you, but everyone at home will know exactly what you're up to. That's not to say I haven't been asked - several TV presenters who have seen my demonstrations have almost demanded that I appear on their shows, but I have had to decline. I am not currently at liberty to reveal their identities.

Are you the only one who knows how to do this?

By no means! I've taught the skills to approximately 40 people over the past five years, and I know of at least two of them who have gone on to reveal the method to others. There have also been several people I have attempted to teach, but for various reasons they gave up or did not complete the full course, and never achieved total transparency. All of those who completed the exercises have demonstrated an ability to become invisible. You may have even encountered one of these people and not known it!

I have also heard reports of people experiencing moments of spontaneous invisibility - take a look at this site and this site to read more about them. Note that none of the people mentioned in these articles have been trained - given suitable instruction they would be able to control their episodes.

What about my clothes? Do I have to be naked?

That's the beauty of psychological effects - it's not your skin that becomes invisible, it's the whole you, which includes anything you might be wearing. Once you have become invisible, you'll be able to manipulate objects that are currently in view of observers, but anything on you at the time you perform the transformation will be included. Of course, once you're invisible you're free to run around naked if that's what interests you - no-one will know!

Do you offer a money-back guarantee?

You're paying nothing to be here, so you've lost nothing other than a few minutes of your time reading this. Come on! How do we do it???

Ok, ok, I won't keep you waiting any longer. It's time to let you in on the secrets of true invisibility. It starts simple, with a mental exercise that you can practise whenever you have a quiet moment. Here's what you have to do:

Sit somewhere you can feel relaxed

Close your eyes

Imagine what it might feel like to be invisible

Picture yourself living out your invisible fantasies

After about five minutes of this, concentrate on one part of your body - a fingertip is a good choice - and will it to become invisible. See it in your mind's eye as it slowly becomes transparent, revealing what is behind it.

Once it is invisible in your mind, hold that thought for as long as possible. You may find your mind begins to wander. If it does, don't worry, relax. Wait a while, and try again.

To begin with you may only be able to hold that thought for a few seconds, or perhaps a minute at most. Keep practising. You'll need to be able to hold that thought uppermost in your mind for at least FIVE minutes before continuing on to stage 2. Distractions are, unfortunately, inevitable, but with enough practise, you'll find you are able to ignore them.

Keep repeating this exercise for at least three weeks. If you still haven't reached five minutes, stick with it - it will happen. Some people have taken two or more months to achieve this, but everyone who has stuck with it has made it to five minutes.

The best way to time yourself is to glance at a clock before you begin to concentrate. When your mind begins to wander - however slight it may be - open your eyes again and check the clock. You may be surprised how long you kept that thought going.

Ok, I've mastered stage 1. What next?

Now that you have the ability to hold a thought about having a part of your body transparent, it's time to move on to stage 2.

Before beginning this exercise, make sure you have eaten nothing for at least one hour, and drunk nothing but water in the same time period.

Put yourself in the same relaxing situation you used for stage 1.

Starting with the tips of your toes, and working slowly up the entire length of your body, imagine yourself becoming transparent.

While you do this, repeat the word "invisible" in your head.

If you do this correctly, you should take about five minutes to reach the top of your head. By now you'll be subconsciously aware of how long it takes for five minutes to pass, and you'll be surprised at how accurate you can be. In total, you'll think of the word "invisible" about 60 times during those five minutes.

Repeat this exercise 12 times, and try to do it every day for at least two weeks - a month works well in my experience. Yes, it's a full hour each day, which may seem a lot, but dedication is one thing you'll need if you're to achieve what most people can only dream about. And if you can't manage this stage, you'll really struggle later.

Be aware that if anything distracts you from the exercise that you'll need to start over again - a full hour is required, no less. So make sure you unplug the phone and perhaps put on some relaxing music - anything that will help you keep your mind on what you're doing, not on the things around you. If you do choose to have music on, make sure it's something you're familiar with - anything new or unusual will easily catch your attention.

Should I repeat stage 1 at all during stage 2?

It's not necessary to go back to stage 1 at this point, unless you feel you're having trouble nailing the five minutes needed for the full body sweep. Perhaps you moved on too soon, if this is the case. Return to stage 1 for another week, then come back to stage 2 and see if it's any easier.

Great. Mastered both stages - why am I still visible?

Patience! If it was that easy, don't you think everyone would be doing it by now? There is still a long way to go, but by now you are getting your head into the space it needs to be for total invisibility to become effective. All really impressive skills take time to learn and turning invisible is no exception.

Bring on stage 3, then!

A word of warning to those who think they can jump straight in at this stage without fully mastering the previous two - you could do yourself serious mental damage if you are not prepared. I have never taken anyone on to this stage who I wasn't sure was ready for it. Please, if you have any doubts whatsoever, seek the advice of a medical doctor or a psychiatrist. There is a risk involved here and I do not want to be responsible for any decline in your health. If you have successfully completed both of the above stages, you will be mentally prepared for what is to come and you should be fine. But please, if you have any doubts whatsoever DO NOT CONTINUE. You have been warned.

Stage 3

Now, for the first time, we'll get a second person involved in the exercise. This person should be someone you trust, someone who will read through these instructions with you and understand what it is you are trying to achieve. If this person is not sympathetic to your aims, they will only hinder your progress. Ideally they should be your partner, but if you are single you can ask a close friend or a relative to take part. We'll refer to this second person as your "invisibuddy".

Ask your invisibuddy to bring a pen and paper to the exercise. Have them sit near you, quietly, to observe you as you perform the mental tasks I am about to list. At the start of the task, and at the end, they should write down how "visible" they think you are, expressed as a percentage. 100% would mean you were totally visible, and 0% would be a very early (and, unfortunately, unlikely) success - total invisibility. Throughout the exercise, if they notice any change, however small, in your visibility, they should make a note of the time and whether they thought you got more visible, or less visible, than before. This will provide a useful "map" for you to refer to later, to see how effective your mental exercises are becoming.

Apart from these notes, your invisibuddy should have no other input into the exercise - please ask them to keep as quiet as possible throughout the hour. Even the noise a pen makes can be distracting. An experienced invisibuddy will try to match their breathing rate to yours, which can actually aid in your relaxation.

Now, onto the exercise from your point of view:

For the first ten minutes you should repeat a couple of full body sweeps as described in stage 2. Keep the word "invisible" repeating in your mind, and visualize as totally as possible each part of your body becoming transparent.

Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo met Thomas Bangalter when they both attended school in Paris, France, in 1987. In 1992, they recorded a song (under the name Darling), which in turn found its way onto a compilation single issued on Stereolab's Duophonic label. The English journalist who dubbed the young Parisian duo 'daft punks' after listening to their first single, can little have imagined quite how far the group would go: a few years later and Daft Punk is the electronic group which has taken techno out of the clubs and given it to the masses across the planet. After their "Homework" album achieved sales of over 2 million (including 400,000 in France alone), and having been acclaimed as much by fellow musicians as by the record-buying public, the duo composed of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo have proved, if proof were needed, that there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to success in the music industry.

Instead of showing their faces all over the place and appearing on television, Daft Punk settled on a different method of getting themselves known: writing songs that captured the spirit of the moment and blasting their way through the traditional boundaries separating House, Disco and Funk, making videos that were both fun and inventive with a raft of leading young directors (Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Roman Copolla, Seb Janiak, among others), and stage shows that held nothing back in terms of spectacle, with above all else a desire to keep pushing back the boundaries of the possible.

In 1999, before the format had swept all before it, Daft Punk released a DVD that was the first music release to fully explore the possibilities of interactivity. They then disappeared from the scene to spend two years preparing their new album, "Discovery", in the greatest secrecy. The album sees Daft Punk scaling new heights, crafting what may become the number one pop record of the new millennium: an album that steadfastly refuses to follow any predetermined formula, preferring instead to offer up 14 tracks rich in insights and humour, aiming to propel their musical heritage, with all its song and dance, firmly into the future.

Embracing a sense of open-mindedness that some people may feel verges on the iconoclastic (a tag that in fact suits them perfectly), the duo have drawn on other melodies, other sounds, other voices (including those of Romanthony and Todd Edwards) to create a work that is very rich and dense. Despite the fact that their writing style varies from the hell-for-leather of "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" to "Something about us", the entire "Discovery" album is shot through with their inimitable style: their incomparable feeling for rhythm and production.

And the fact that Leiji Matsumoto, one of the living gods of Japanese animation (Captain Harlock), was entrusted with the task of designing the video for the first single "One More Time" (which debuted at number 1 in France, number 2 in the UK, number 1 in the Eurosingle chart) (has reached then number 1 in Canada, Japan and Portugal and number 1 on Billboard's hot dance/club play chart), is just one of the many surprises that the two will be springing on us in the months ahead.
